Press release:
MONTREAL COMICCON INVADES PLACE BONAVENTURE!
Montreal (Quebec) August 16th, 2010 – On September 11 and 12, 2010, the Montreal Comiccon, Quebec’s largest comic book, bande dessinée, sci-fi, horror, toy and manga convention, will invade the halls of Place Bonaventure with a wild menagerie of international and local artists, entertainment celebrities, passionate exhibitors and colorful activities. Thousands of fans of all ages are expected to join this two-day celebration of the world of fantasy fiction.
This year’s guest artists will include Tim Sale, the comic book master who crafted the famous paintings featured in the TV show Heroes and numerous landmark comic books starring the most iconic figures of the Marvel and DC universes. Barbara Canepa, the Italian writer and illustrator of the hit French bande dessinée series Sky-Doll and founder of W.I.T.C.H. Magazine, with over 40 million copies sold in 83 countries, will make her first public appearance in Quebec. Two real fantasy American heroes will reunite for the first time in 15 years: Larry Hama, the man whose creative force turned the G.I. Joe toy line into a multimedia juggernaut in the 1980's, and Herb Trimpe, creator of the original Wolverine. Other visiting stars will include Ethan Van Sciver, the fan-favorite artist behind one of the most successful Green Lantern series in recent memory, Captain America and Fantastic Four artist Dale Eaglesham and many, many more.
The biggest franchises in the sci-fi universe will be properly represented at the Comiccon: Star Wars fans will be thrilled to meet Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Maria de Aragon (the original Greedo), all under the watchful eye of Darth Vader and his imperial troops, brought to life by the members of the Quebec Imperial Fortress in full costume. Trekkies will make a close encounter of the third kind with Brent Spiner, the popular Data on the hit TV show Star Trek: Next Generation. As for horror fans, they will have an opportunity to exchange a few spooky words and secrets with the legendary Elvira, “Mistress of the Dark”.
Activities will include question and answer sessions, autograph signings and photo opportunities with stars, free nCw live superhero wrestling matches, an extravagant costume contest, intense Magic and Yu-GI-Oh! tournaments, cosplay performances, movie previews by Seville Pictures and a chance to have pictures taken inside the original DeLorean automobile from Back to the Future to raise funds for the fight against Parkinson’s disease.
The local scene will be duly represented by the rising stars of the Quebec comic book world, including the authors of the popular series Académie des chasseurs de primes, independent film producers of fantasy web shows and the hilarious actors behind the Quebecois voices of The Simpsons. Naturally, comic book, card, toy and movie collectors will find rare items and acquire original art from the most dedicated retailers in Canada. And passionate fans, as always, will be expected to show up in their finest costumes. The Montreal Comiccon is a not-to-be-missed date for families and friends.
For detailed information about guests and activities, and to take advantage of early online ticket discounts and special offers, fans are invited to visit http://www.montrealcomiccon.com/.
The Montreal Comiccon will take place at Place Bonaventure (Hall 200-N), on Saturday and Sunday September 11th-12th , 2010.

John Byrne's Next Men Back in December 2010
I just discovered that IDW announced the following news in this press release from the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con: John Byrne's Next Men are returning!
Genre-defining series returns this December
San Diego, CA (July 24, 2010) - IDW Publishing, a premier publisher of graphic novels and books, and award-winning creator John Byrne, today announced the long-awaited return of Byrne's fan-favorite series, John Byrne's Next Men. Picking up where to series left off in 1995, Byrne and IDW will at last return fans to the world of Project: Next Men.
Debuting in 1991, Byrne's Next Men originally ran for thirty issues and a standalone prequel graphic novel, 2112. Next Men developed an all-new world of superheroes grounded in modern reality. The series quickly became one of the most critically acclaimed runs of Byrne's remarkable career, but ceased publication in 1995 and left fans with a cliffhanger at the end of issue 30. Now, coinciding with the twentieth anniversary of the original first issue, Byrne and IDW invite fans back into the world of the Next Men.
IDW has previously collected the existing Next Men material, in two black and white "Compleat" volumes and oversized Premiere Edition hardcovers, the third volume of which will be available in stores on September 1, 2010.
"When John started working for us three or four years ago, two things happened, and have been happening pretty much every month since then," said IDW's CCO/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. "I've been asking John about doing new Next Men comics, and fans have been e-mailing me demanding that we do new Next Men stories. Happily, after all this time, John is going to quiet us all down and do just that."
John Byrne's Next Men returns to stores in December 2010. For more information, please visit http://www.idwpublishing.com/ and http://www.byrnerobotics.com/.
About John Byrne
John Byrne has worked continuously in comics since 1975, following his first professional sale in late summer of 1974. Beginning humbly enough, with the likes of WHEELIE AND THE CHOPPER BUNCH and DOOMSDAY + 1 (for Charlton Comics), and IRON FIST and THE CHAMPIONS for Marvel, he eventually moved on to Marvel's number one cult book, X-MEN (not yet Uncanny) in 1977.

It was his work on X-MEN which truly ignited John's star, and from there he moved to CAPTAIN AMERICA, THE AVENGERS, and a five year run on Marvel's flagship title, FANTASTIC FOUR. Seeking new heights to conquer, in 1986 John accepted the daunting assignment of revamping the oldest and most famous of all superheroes, Superman. Beginning with the hugely successful MAN OF STEEL miniseries, John brought SUPERMAN back into the attention of the fans, and that success continues today. In 1990, John decided to venture into the unpredictable waters of creator owned works, launching NEXT MEN in 1991. Following that success he brought out DANGER UNLIMITED, followed by BABE in 1995. Since then, he has written and drawn such titles as WONDER WOMAN, X-MEN: THE HIDDEN YEARS, LAB RATS, DOOM PATROL, and BLOOD OF THE DEMON. In 2005, he returned to Superman performing art duties for ACTION COMICS. He then illustrated THE ATOM for DC before writing and illustrating several new STAR TREK and ANGEL series
