Two Italian Guys Comic Book Exclusive at Baltimore Comic-Con
Free signed, numbered mini-print with book purchase
Baltimore, Maryland - August 20, 2010 – From the migration, to the mob, to marinara, it’s the Italian-American experience like you’ve never seen it before! Recently released in May, indie comic Two Italian Guys is already generating a buzz with an Italian market-themed booth that is not to be missed.
Lucky fans will be able to get a free signed, limited convention exclusive mini-print as well as a Two Italian Guys novelty stress ball with a book purchase at the August 28-29, 2010 Baltimore Comic-Con. Creator and cartoonist Chris Yura will sign, number, and personalize each print, which is limited to only 100 copies.
"I still have a flyer from the first big comic show I went to over 15 years ago, and that inspired me to create something special to share with the Baltimore fans," said Yura. "We look forward to the Baltimore Comic-Con all year, and this souvenir print captures some of the excitement to enjoy long after this great weekend ends."
Combining a long running graphic novel with a short story format, the main tale of Two Italian Guys follows two first generation brothers who think they deserve more than dead end jobs and, if they ignore their father’s advice, may have found the answer. Short stories starring cantankerous TV chef Lou Peppino and his crew of talking veggies will have readers cooking Italian in no time…if Lou doesn’t get kicked off the air first! Wittily strung together with a hearty helping of mob hits and pop culture references, Two Italian Guys has a little something for everyone. Two Italian Guys (38 full-color pages, premium hardcover, retail price $12.95) is available for purchase direct from the publisher at http://www.mangiaindustry.com/ and at Amazon.com.
The eleventh annual Baltimore Comic-Con will be held Saturday and Sunday, August 28-29, 2010 at the Baltimore Convention Center. Convention hours are Saturday 10 AM to 6 PM and Sunday 10 AM to 5 PM.

I Reads You Review: Shrapnel: Hubris #1
SHRAPNEL: HUBRIS #1
RADICAL PUBLISHING
WRITERS: Nick Sagan and Clinnette Minnis
ARTISTS: Concept Art House
LETTERS: Sean Konot
COVER: Stephan Martiniere
64pp, Color, $4.99
Shrapnel: Aristeia Rising was a science fiction comic book created by Mark Long and Nick Sagan and published by Radical Comics. The series depicted an insurrection that began on Venus against an oppressive government known as the Solar Alliance. In the sequel, Shrapnel: Hubris, the planetary revolution moves across the solar system.
As Shrapnel: Hubris #1 opens, Venus is the last free colony in the Solar System, but while it has yet to fall, it is unknown how much longer it can withstand the Alliance’s planetary siege and blockade against it. Under constant barrage from orbit and kept from replenishing much-needed supplies, the colonists of Venus find themselves in desperate circumstances. Now, notorious ex-marine turned surprise hero, Vijaya “Sam” Narayan leads a “black box mission” to deprive the enemy of its own critical resources. But haunted by the ghosts of her past and with squabbling among the men she leads, can Sam even reach her target, let alone cripple the Alliance supply line?
Shrapnel: Hubris is good military science fiction. It isn’t great, but it is quite intriguing – enough so that I want to read more. The painted art by Concept Art House captures the individuality of the characters and creates a murky, tech-heavy setting that reminds me of the sets from the film, Aliens. While the script by Sagan and co-writer Clinnette Minnis is good, Concept Art House’s graphical storytelling is matter-of-fact and flat. It doesn’t often capture the tension that the script suggests.
Still, fans of military science fiction may find this to be a comic book to their liking.

Dark Horse Comics Snatches Joss Whedon's Angel
ANGEL RETURNS TO DARK HORSE COMICS
Joss Whedon’s vampire detective to continue his adventures in new title running alongside Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Nine
Dark Horse Comics is thrilled to announce that Joss Whedon’s Angel will return to the Dark Horse stable in 2011. Dark Horse’s Angel will bring the beloved characters from Whedon’s longest-running shows under one roof, allowing for new and exciting explorations of the Buffyverse featuring favorites from the casts of both series.
“I’ve always regretted letting Angel go in the first place,” Dark Horse senior managing editor Scott Allie said. “So we’re really excited about getting him back, as well as all his supporting cast. It’s necessary for how Joss wants to handle season nine, details of which will start spilling out in the months to come. Right now, we’ve got to wrap up season eight, and IDW still has a good long run of books before season nine starts.”
IDW Publishing confirmed today that it will launch the company’s final Angel story arc in November. This closing six-issue arc will serve as a bridge to Dark Horse Comics, which will pick up the series in late 2011. Under the direction of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel creator Joss Whedon, all parties are working together for as seamless a transition as possible. The companies have been coordinating story lines in both Dark Horse’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight and IDW’s Angel, creating a greater sense of cohesion and cooperation to ensure that this transition is true to both ongoing story lines and to the faithful fans of both series.
About Dark Horse Comics
Since 1986, Dark Horse Comics has proven to be a solid example of how integrity and innovation can help broaden a unique storytelling medium and establish a small, homegrown company as an industry giant. The company is known for the progressive and creator-friendly atmosphere it provides for writers and artists. In addition to publishing comics from top talent like Frank Miller, Mike Mignola, Neil Gaiman, Gerard Way, and comics legend Will Eisner, Dark Horse has developed such successful characters as the Mask, Timecop, and SpyBoy. Additionally, its highly successful line of comics and products based on popular properties includes Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Aliens, Conan, Emily the Strange, Tim Burton, Trigun, Serenity, and Domo. Today Dark Horse Comics is the largest independent comic-book publisher in the US and is recognized as one of the world’s leading publishers of licensed comics material.
About IDW Publishing
IDW is an award-winning publisher of comic books, graphic novels and trade paperbacks, based in San Diego, California. Renowned for its diverse catalog of licensed and independent titles, IDW publishes some of the most successful and popular titles in the industry, including: Hasbro’s The Transformers and G.I. JOE, Paramount’s Star Trek; Fox’s Angel; the BBC’s Doctor Who; and comics and trade collections based on novels by worldwide bestselling author, James Patterson. IDW is also home to the Library of American Comics imprint, which publishes classic comic reprints; Yoe! Books, a partnership with Yoe! Studios; and is the print publisher for EA Comics and ComicMix.
IDW’s original horror series, 30 Days of Night, was launched as a major motion picture in October 2007 by Sony Pictures and was the #1 film in its first week of release. More information about the company can be found at IDWPublishing.com.
