New "Hotwire" Series Coming in June from Radical Publishing

HOTWIRE: DEEP CUT #1 NOW AVAILABLE FOR ORDER THROUGH DIAMOND PREVIEWS

Detective Exorcist Alice Hotwire is back in a brand new adventure! Radical Publishing is proud to announce that the first issue Hotwire: Deep Cut, follow-up to the acclaimed Hotwire: Requiem for the Dead, is now available for order through Diamond Previews. Written and illustrated by Steve Pugh and co-created by Warren Ellis, Hotwire: Deep Cut delves further into the life and mind of the city’s only supernatural investigator, Alice Hotwire.

Directly following the explosive events of Hotwire: Requiem for the Dead, Alice Hotwire is taking some much needed R&R. But when a ghost from her storied past appears at her door, it sets off a series of events that lead Hotwire and her partner, Mobey, across the city as they try to stop a secret government project from turning the city into a living nightmare. In Hotwire: Deep Cut, Steve Pugh takes readers on a new supernatural adventure that will offer a glimpse into Alice Hotwire’s past, as well as her future, with a host of familiar faces including the unsettling Coroner Love and the rest of the Metro Police.

“Iconic characters like Alice Hotwire deserve to have their stories told,” said Radical President and Publisher Barry Levine. “With Requiem for the Dead just released in trade paperback, we felt it was time to continue the story that Steve and Warren began. This time around, Steve has upped the ante for Alice and I can’t wait to see how the fans react to some of the surprises he has in store.”

Hotwire: Deep Cut #1 is the first of a three-issue miniseries and is listed in the May 2010 edition of Diamond Previews, shipping July 2010. Hotwire: Deep Cut #1 is 32-page comic retailing for $3.50.

"Sullivan's Sluggers" Arrives in August

AMERICA'S FAVORITE PASTIME BECOMES A NIGHTMARE

Mark Andrew Smith and James Stokoe hit one out of the park with SULLIVAN'S SLUGGERS

Image Comics announces the release of SULLIVAN'S SLUGGERS, a powerful collaboration between writer Mark Andrew Smith and artist James Stokoe (ORC STAIN). Smith, winner of a Harvey Award for co-editing POPGUN 1, is also the writer behind the offbeat favorites AMAZING JOY BUZZARDS, AQUA LEUNG and NEW BRIGHTON ARCHEOLOGICAL SOCIETY.

"Sullivan's Sluggers is a great blending of sports comics and horror," says Smith. "It was great to do a story about a baseball team while also at the same time working in the horror genre. I think this book will simultaneously resonate with sports and baseball fans as well as horror fans, making it a perfect storm."

"The horror genre has played a hugely influential role in comics, so it's been really cool to dip my toes in that pool," adds Stokoe. "Mark's cranked out a really fun script that puts a lot of emphasis on stuff that can only be done in comics and has stuffed panels with crazy amounts of gore and action. Our unsung hero, Rodrigo Aviles, is laying down some really vivid and imaginative colors as well. Lots of red splatter and juicy monster gizzards!"

"From THE AMAZING JOY BUZZARDS to POPGUN, Mark Smith has long been one of Image's most imaginative and prolific writers," observes Image Publisher Eric Stephenson. "He has a great eye for artistic talent and a head full of ideas that in many ways are ahead of their time. Aided and abetted by the incredible James Stokoe, SULLIVAN'S SLUGGERS is easily one of his best projects yet. If you haven't been exposed to the madcap wonder of Mark's work, this is the place to start!"

SULLIVAN'S SLUGGERS: When Sullivan's bedraggled minor league sluggers accept an invitation to play an out-of-town game, they have no idea their small-town destination is cursed. When the sun goes down after the 7th inning stretch, the dysfunctional teammates find themselves fighting for their lives against a town crawling with flesh eating monsters.

SULLIVAN'S SLUGGERS, an all-new 176-page full-color trade written by Mark Andrew Smith and illustrated by James Stokoe and published by Image Comics, will be available in stores on August 11, 2010, for $16.99.

For the Aspiring Manga Artist

I read I'll Give It My All...Tomorrow, Vol. 1

I posted a review at the Comic Book Bin (which has an update of its iPhone app).

Meet Casey of the Morning Glories

An all-new series from Nick Spencer, writer of the critically acclaimed titles FORGETLESS, EXISTENCE 2.0, EXISTENCE 3.0, and SHUDDERTOWN.

Juan Jose Ryp and El Torres Launch New Miniseries

A GOOD GIRL GOES TO HELL

Artist Juan Jose Ryp and writer El Torres put NANCY IN HELL for Image Comics

How does a former cheerleader become a hardened hellraiser? Artist Juan Jose Ryp and writer El Torres answer that question with NANCY IN HELL, a four-issue miniseries that sends a good girl into a Hell filled with tortured souls, lusty demons, and armed outcasts.

Fans of Warren Ellis's BLACK SUMMER and NO HERO will recognize Ryp's highly detailed art style. Torres is the writer behind the critically acclaimed THE VEIL as well as ZOMBIES!: ECLIPSE OF THE UNDEAD.

"Nancy was one of our first creations together, and foolishly, we still love her," explains Ryp, a resident of Andalusia, Spain.

"There weren't any deep questions or psychological undertones to this book when we first started," says Torres, who also lives in Andalusia. "We just wanted to create a fun little romp with a blond bombshell armed with a chainsaw, carving her way through demons and the undead. Though after starting with some story details involving Christian cosmogony -- after all, she IS wandering through a sort of Christian Hell -- the deep questions invariably came up."

"But we never lost sight of the monsters or chainsaws," laughs Ryp.

NANCY IN HELL: Good girls go to heaven, right? But it seems like there are no good girls anymore. After her death, Nancy awakens in a creepy landscape to find decomposing lost souls, demons lurking in the shadows, outcasts, chainsaws, booze, and certain doom. Can Nancy escape from Hell? Amazing artist JUAN JOSE and writer EL TORRES take you on a white-knuckle tour of the underworld to find out!

NANCY IN HELL #1 (of 4), a 32-page full-color comic book for $2.99, will be in stores August 4, 2010.

Archaia's "Fraggle Rock" #1 Sells Out

THE JIM HENSON COMPANY’S ‘FRAGGLE ROCK’ #1 BY ARCHAIA HAS SOLD OUT!

SOON-TO-BE-RELEASED ISSUE #2 ALSO NEAR SELLOUT AT DISTRIBUTOR LEVEL

Archaia proudly announced today that copies of Fraggle Rock #1 have sold out at the distributor level. (Copies may still be available at local comic book shops.) Additional copies of issue #1 are being sent to Diamond Comic Distributors now to meet the demand.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with the positive response to Fraggle Rock, and I’m so excited that the first book of the Archaia/Jim Henson Company partnership has flown off the shelves so quickly!” said Archaia Editor-in-Chief Stephen Christy. “Archaia is focused on long-term, generational brand building, and Fraggle Rock is one such property that allows us to bridge the gap between the generation that grew up with the original TV show and a new generation of kids, some of whom have never read comics before. Working with The Jim Henson Company is a thrill and an honor, and we hope to continue this success with future Henson comic books, including The Dark Crystal.”

Readers are clamoring for the Fraggle Rock comic after Archaia and The Jim Henson Company re-introduced the property as part of the Archaia Free Comic Book Day flip book issue, which also featured the Publisher’s popular all-ages series, Mouse Guard. Adults who grew up watching the classic “Fraggle Rock” TV series are happily introducing the property to their children, as evidenced by the large number of families present at Archaia, Lionsgate and The Jim Henson Company’s Fraggle Rock celebration held at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles during Free Comic Book Day. The original TV show is making its return to the small screen this fall as part of the inaugural lineup of Hasbro’s new children’s network, The Hub, and Lionsgate has recently released new DVD collections of all four seasons of the series.

Copies of issue #2, which go on sale May 26, 2010 in comic book shops, are also near sellout at the distributor level. Issue #3 goes on sale in June, followed by a hardcover collection in August.
