From Newsarama:  At his C2E2 panel, Jim Lee has indicated that DC Comics will not replace the recently fired Dan DiDio as co-publisher... which leaves Lee as the DC's sole publisher and Chief Creative Officer (CCO).

COMICS TO FILM - From Newsarama:  Sony Pictures has released 12 new photographic stills from the film, "Bloodshoot," which stars Vin Diesel and is based on the Valiant Entertainment comic book.

From Newsarama:  Todd McFarlane has drawn Spider-Man (the character that brought him to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s) and Spawn (his signature creator-owned character) together for the first time.  McFarlane brings Spider-Man and Spawn together for his cover illustration for the 50th volume of the Overstreet Price Guide, due July 2020.

MANGA TO ANIME - From Deadline:  Funimation's animated feature film, "My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising," topped the Wed., Feb. 26th, 2020 daily box office with an estimated take of 1.7 million.

From BleedingCool:  There is more nuance than previously suggested regarding AT&T/Warner Bros., fired Dan DiDio, and DC Comics' 5G/Generation Five.

FILM TO COMICS - From Newsarama:  The original version of the screenplay for the 1987 film, "Predators," will be adapted into a five-issue comic book miniseries by Dark Horse Comics.  "Predator: The Original Screenplay" will be based on the script entitled "Hunters" by brother John and James Thomas.

From SyFy:  Rising "Blerd" (Black nerd) star and comics creator, Che Grayson, talks to "SyFy Wire."

From ANN:  A doujinshi (amateur) manga artist in Japan has won her lawsuit against an IT company that operates doujinshi manga piracy sites.

DC CINEMA - From Deadline:  Actor Ben Affleck says that he dropped out of his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne ("Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," "Justice League") for a number of reasons including his struggles with drinking alcohol.

From BleedingCool:  Scout Comics is launching a young adult (YA) imprint, "Scoot."

COMICS TO TV - From Deadline:  Oscar winner Taika Waititi and Oscar-nominee Jude Law considering a TV adaptation of Oni Press' comic book, "The Auteur."

From Newsarama:  Mark Waid has been named publisher of Humanoids, the American publisher that reprints classic European comics.

From BleedingCool:  The 100 most ordered comic books ("Wonder Woman #750") and graphic novels ("Absolute Carnage") for January 2020.

From MissState:   Comic book writer, Benjamin Percy, will be a writer-in-residence at Mississippi State University.   Percy had a long tenure on DC Comics' "Green Arrow" and will be writing Marvel Comics' new "Wolverine" series.

From CBR:  Who are the 10 richest manga creators in Japan?

From GoodReader:  Digital manga sales increased by almost 30 percent in Japan in 2019.  Print sales declined for the 15th straight year.

From THR:  Paul Dini and Alan Burnett, two of the producers on the classic 1990s animated TV series, "Batman: The Animated Series," are writing a six-issue miniseries, "Batman: The Adventures Continue."  It will act as a continuation of the TV series.

DC CINEMA - From Newsarama:  Director Matt Reeves has a camera test of actor Robert Pattinson wearing the "Bat-suit" for the film, "The Batman," which is due June 25, 2021.

From Newsarama:  An oral history of the "X-Men" will be presented at SXSW (South by Southwest) in Austin, Texas on March 13.

From Newsarama:  The project that Marvel Comics was teasing is a new ongoing comic book series from Kurt Busiek, Alex Ross, and Yildiray Cinar.  It is "The Marvels," a team-up series that will span the entirety of Marvel Comics' publishing history and continuity.

DC CINEMA - From Newsarama:  For his performance as the title character in the hit film, "Joker," Joaquin Phoenix won the Oscar for "Best Actor" at the 92nd Academy Awards.  That was one of two Oscars the film won - the other being for "Best Original Score" by Hildur Guonadottir.

DC CINEMA - From ComicBook:  Warner Bros. is apparently renamed "Birds of Prey" (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)" to "Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey" which opened at the box office lower ($33.2 million) than expected ($40 to $50 million).

DC CINEMA - From BleedingCool:  The site has a list of comic book creators who were "thanked" for the contributions to the recent DCEU film, "Birds of Prey."

From TheLantern:  Apparently, Ohio State's "University Libraries" has the largest manga collection outside Japan.

From BleedingCool:  In 2017, comic book "fan," Matthew Sterling went to the 2017 Phoenix Comicon with the intention of shooting "Power Rangers" actor, Jason David Frank, and any police who got in his way.  Luckily the police were alerted and the wrestled Sterling to the ground on the first floor of the convention centre.  He was recently found “guilty except insane” and Judge Jennifer Ryan-Touhill sentenced Sterling to 25 years in the Arizona State Hospital.

IN MEMORIAM - From BleedingCool:  Longtime Archie Comics editor Victor Gorelick has died at the age of 78, Friday, February 7, 2020.  Gorelick started working in the art department at Archie Comics right out of high school.  He would go on to become Archie's editor-in-chief.

From Newsarama:  Longtime "Wolverine" writer, Larry Hama, is returning to the character for a tie-in to "Iron Man 2020."

From Newsarama:  Marvel Comics is teasing a "most ambitious series ever" from "Marvels" creators, Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross with artist Yildiray Cinar.

From TampaBayTimes:  26 years after being convicted of obscenity (three charges) in Pinellas County, Florida, cartoonist and comic book creator, Michael Diana just got off probation.  Diana, now 50, is best known for his infamous "Boiled Angel" comics.

From Lionstooth:  Cris Siqueira interviews cartoonist and publisher, Eric Reynolds, of Fantagraphics Books, in a wide-ranging (but not too long) and fantastic interview.  Fans of alternative and small press comic books will find it quite informative.

DC TV - From Collider:  Actor Barry Keoghan has left FX's "Y The Last Man" as its leading man.  The series is of course based on the DC Comics/Vertigo comic book.

DC TV - From Deadline:  Benjamin Bratt has been cast in HBO Max's pilot for "DMZ," based on the DC Comics/Vertigo comic book series.

From Newsarama:  IDW Publishing will put "My Little Pony" and "Transformers" together for a major summer crossover event.

From Newsarama:  "Bad Idea" is a new comic book publisher made of Valiant Entertainment alumni.  They reveal their... bad idea.

From BleedingCool:  DC Comics' 2020 Free Comic Book Day giveaway, "Generation Zero," may start DC Comics' new timeline.

From Newsarama:  Former Valiant Entertainment types are involved with a new publishing venture that involves the name, "Bad Idea."

From ComicBook:  There is a new report on how badly piracy has hurt the development of manga in Japan.

VALIANT CINEMA - From Newsarama:  Sony Consumer Products, Valiant Entertainment and Titan Books are teaming up for a novelization of "Bloodshot: The Movie."  Gavin Smith, who has written novels based on video games, will write the novel.

FOX MARVEL U - From Newsarama:  There is a new poster for "The New Mutants," the last of 20th Century's Fox's "X-Men" movies.  The poster apparently sports the new "20th Century Studios" logo that Disney created to rid itself of the "Fox" name.  The film is still due April 3rd...

DC CINEMA - From Variety:  "Joker" wins three awards at the 2020 BAFTA Film Awards in London.

DC CINEMA - From CBR:  The "Black Adam" film is rumored to introduce "Cyclone," the daughter of the original comic book version of "Red Tornado."

From BleedingCool:  No American has ever written for the "Doctor Who" TV series, and if one did, author and comic book writer, Joe Hill, would not be the first... according to a story Joe Hill tells.

From Newsarama:  Inker Dexter Vines has been diagnosed with cancer, and his friends have started a "GoFundMe" page to help with his expenses.

From ComicBook:  The special one-shot revival chapter of the manga, "Death Note" will be simultaneously release in Japan and the U.S.

From BleedingCool:  Silenn Thomas, the CEO of Frank Miller's production company, has some kind of "beef" with DC Comics.

JACK KIRBY - From CBR:  Jack Kirby died 26 years ago (Feb. 6th).  "CBR" takes a look at ten "forgotten characters" that "the King" created.

COMICS TO FILM - From Newsarama:  An actress is organizing a short film based on Terry Moore's comic book, "Strangers in Paradise," as a tryout for a feature film.

MANGA-TV - From Deadline:   Netflix has given the greenlight to a live-action TV series based on the worldwide smash hit manga, "One Piece."  The 10-episode series will be produced by Tomorrow Studios and the Shueisha, the publisher of "One Piece."

From THR:  POW! Entertainment, a company co-founded by the late Marvel Comics icon, Stan Lee, has asked a California federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit brought against them by Lee's daughter, JC Lee.

THE BATMAN - From YahooFinance:  Filming is underway on Matt Reeves' "The Batman."

From Newsarama:  The full cast for Matt Reeves' "The Batman" has been confirmed.

From Newsarama:  Jerry Craft's "New Kid" graphic novel has won the prestigious "John Newbery Medal" for the most outstanding contribution to children's literatur in 2020.  This is the first time a comic book has won this honor.

From BleedingCool:  "The Beat" has separated from publisher, Lion Forge, and is once again an independent new source.

MARVEL TV - From TheWrap:  The animated Marvel series, "Howard the Duck" and "Tigra & Dazzler," are not moving forward at Hulu.  The decision was apparently Marvel Studios'.

COMICS-TO-TV - From THR:  Amazon has picked up the rights to Rick Remender's comic book, "Fear Agent" (Image Comics).  Meanwhile, Remender and his production company, Giant Generator, has signed a deal with Sony Pictures Television.

DC CINEMA - From Deadline:  Actress Rosario Dawson has snagged the lead in HBO Max's pilot for "DMZ," the TV adaptation of Brian Wood's comic book that was published by DC Comics.  Oscar-nominee Ava Duvernay is directing the pilot.

From BleedingCool:  Comic book artist Dan Fraga will relaunch his 1990s comic book, "Black Flag," by launching a crowdfunding campaign in April 2020. Fraga is generally known for his association with Rob Liefeld.

DC CINEMA - From Deadline:  J.J. Abrams' "Bad Robot" production company is apparently developing film and TV ideas based on DC Comics' "Justice League Dark."

From CBSNewYork:  The Schomburg Center’s 8th annual Black Comic Book Festival is a black comic book festival that celebrates the art of science fiction, fantasy, and storytelling.  The event was held Fri., Jan 17th to Sat., Jan 18th, 2020.

MARVEL-HULU - From Newsarama:  Marvel reveals voice cast members for its animated series, "M.O.D.O.K." which will stream on Hulu.

From Newsarama:  IDW Publishing will publish a new comic book miniseries based on the late TV series, "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine."  "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Too Long a Sacrifice" begins in April 2020.

From JerusalemPost:  The Israeli team of Guy Lenman and Nimrod Frydman won the 13th Japan International Manga Awards.

DC CINEMA - From CheatSheet:  Zoe Kravitz will play Catwoman in Matt Reeves "The Batman," but she also provided Catwoman's voice in 2017's "The LEGO Batman Movie."

SONY MARVEL U - From GamesRadar:  Maybe you are intrigued by the recent teaser trailers for Sony's summer release," Morbius," based on the Marvel Comics character.  This articles tells you who Morbius is, what his powers are, and looks at his comic book history.

COMICS TO STREAMING - From BloodyDisgusting:  Netflix has released a behind-the-scenes video featurette for its upcoming series, "Locke & Key," which is based on the long-running IDW Publishing comic book by writer Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez.

From BleedingCool:  For what its worth, the site "Cash Lady" says that "Black Panther" is the most popular superhero in the United States.

From Newsarama:  Marvel Comics' upcoming series, "Children of the Atom," introduces a new class of teen mutants.

COMICS TO TV - From Deadline:  "The Walking Dead: World Beyond," the second spin-off of "The Walking Dead," is scheduled to debut April 12, 2020.

From Newsarama:  Marvel Comics will republish its classic and seminal graphic novel, "God Loves, Man Kills" ("Marvel Graphic Novel #5), as a two-issue miniseries, beginning April 2020.  The original storytellers, writer Chris Claremont and artist Brent Anderson, will create a new story for the miniseries, which will act as a modern day framing device.

From Newsarama:   Former "Saturday Night Live" performer, Taran Killam, will writer the three-issue comic book miniseries, "Empyre: Spider-Man."

FILM TO COMICS - From THR:  Dark Horse Comics will adapt the late Dan O'Bannon's original screenplay for the film, "Alien" (1979) as a five-issue comic book miniseries.  They will use O'Bannon's original work, not the screenplay heavily rewritten by producers Walter Hill and David Giler.

COMICS TO TV - From Newsarama:  TNT has released a teaser trailer for its upcoming TV series, "Snowpiercer," which is based on the French comic, "The Escape," which was also adapted into an acclaimed 2013 from director Bong Joon-Ho.  "Snowpiercer" is scheduled to premiere May 31, 2020.

DC TV - From USAToday:  Daniel Lindelof has made it official that he will not work on a second seaxon of his critically acclaimed HBO series, "Watchmen."  And HBO seems unlikely to do a second season with him.

From Newsarama:  Image Comics publisher, Eric Stephenson, says that there are too many comic books being published for comic book stores to handle...

From 2000AD:  Rebellion Publishing has launched a line that will reprint important and popular Judge Dredd comics.  "Essential Judge Dredd" will launch September 2020.

MEMORIAM - From 2000AD:   Longtime British comic book letterer, Ellie deVille, died at the age of 72, Tuesday, December 24, 2019.  She was working up to the time of her death and was one of the longest serving and most prolific letterers for the venerable British comics magazine, "2000 AD."

From CBR:   2015's "Star Wars #1" was the top selling comic book of the last decade.

TRAILER - From Newsarama:  There is a new international trailer for Columbia Pictures' "Bloodshot," which based on the Valiant Comics' character.  The film is due March 13, 2020.

From TVO:  Canadian indie comics publisher, Koyama Press, is closing, so what will that mean to Canadian indie comics artists?

From FastCompany:  Manga artist are among the artists that produced poster art for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

From BleedingCool:  Leah Williams and David Baldeon will revive "X-Factor" for the second wave of "Dawn of X" comic books.

TRAILER - From YouTube:  Here is the first trailer for Sony's "Morbius," which is based on the Marvel Comics character.  The film is due July 31, 2020.

DC CINEMA - From THR:  Wildstorm's acclaimed comic book, "Ex Machina," is headed to the big screen, but reportedly under a new title, "The Great Machine."

DC CINEMA - From Variety:  "Joker" becomes the second film based on a comic book to earned a best picture Oscar nomination.  That it was of 11 nominations for the film, which include best director (Todd Phillips) and best actor (Joaquin Phoenix).  Last year, Marvel Studios' "Black Panther" earned the first best picture Oscar nomination for a comic book film.

From BleedingCool:  Popular artist David Finch may be preppring an original graphic novel that will be published by Image Comics.

DC CINEMA - From EsquireUK:  The run time on "Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)" will be 108 minutes, making it the shortest "Worlds of DC" film to date.

From Newsarama:  DC Comics Publisher, Dan DiDio, said that the company will not solicit any new "DC Black Label" titles until they are sure that the material will come out as scheduled.

MANGA TO STREAMING - From Summary:  An animated version of the manga, "Beastars," is apparently headed to Netflix this year.

From BRProud:  In Livingston Parish, a rural Louisiana parish (county), the Denham Springs-Walker branch of the Livingston Parish Library system is having its own "comic-con" on Sat., Feb. 15th, 2020.

G.I. JOE - From Newsarama:  The upcoming film, "Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins," is a reboot of the "G.I. Joe" film franchise and not a prequel to the previous two films.

DC CINEMA - From Newsarama:  FX's "Y: The Last Man" TV series has gotten a reboot with new showrunners.  The show has not, however, gone into production.

From THR:  Marvel Comics had seven of the top ten comic book releases in the American comic book Direct Market in 2019.  DC Comics had five of the top ten collected edition and graphic novel releases.

From Newsarama:  The nominations for the 2020 / 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards  have been announced.  One of the categories is "Outstanding Comic Book."  The winners will be announced March 19, 2020.

DC CINEMA - From Newsarama:  Director Andy Muschietti says that his movie based on DC Comics' character, "Flash," will be based on the comic book miniseries, "Flashpoint." but not the way fans might expect.

From THR:  BOOM! Studios will publish Ryan North and Albert Monteys' comic book adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut's novel, Slaughterhouse-Five.  The first issue is due September 2020.

From ComicBook:  The creators of the infamous "Death Note manga, "Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, are working on a one-shot chapter to the series.  The 87-page story will appear in the Feb. 4th issues of "SQ Jump" in Japan.

From BleedingCool:  The first looks at DC Comics upcoming "5G" event and the new timeline will appear in the first three months of 2020.

DC TV - From EW:  Actor Dennis Haysbert will provide the voice of "God" in the fifth and final season of "Lucifer," which moved from Fox to streaming on Netflix.  Author and comic book writer, Neil Gaiman, provided the voice of God in Season 3 of "Lucifer."

DC CINEMA - From Newsarama:  Todd Phillip's "Joker" won two awards at the 77th Golden Globes.  One was for "actor in motion picture-drama" (Joaquin Phoenix) and the other was for "score-motion picture" (Hildur Guðnadóttir).

From THR:  Spider-Man is apparently out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Disney and Sony could not come to an agreement over a devision of revenue in future films.  Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will no longer produce Spider-Man films, for the time being.

From Newsarama:   The Jack Kirby Museum & Research Center is planning a walking tour of the historical places in the late Jack Kirby's life in celebration of what would have been his 102nd birthday.  The date is August 28, 2019.

From Newsarama:  The late comic book creator, Darwyn Cooke, is being considered for having a street named after him.  Cooke, who died in 2016, was born in Toronto in 1962.

From ShadowandAct:  The 2004-05 comic book series, "Cannon Busters" which features Black/African-American characters, is now an American anime series on Netflix.

From Newsarama:  Cartoonist and comics creator, Art Spiegelman, is best known for his Pulitzer Prize winning comics/graphic novel, "Maus."  He had contributed an essay to British publisher, Folio Society's "The Golden Age of Marvel Comics 1939-1949," but his reference in the essay to President Trump was deemed too political.  So Spiegelman say he withdrew it.

From Deadline:  Syfy has cancelled its Superman universe TV series, "Krypton" with the recent Season Two finale being the series finale.  Syfy is also passing on developing the planned "Lobo" spinoff series.

From BleedingCool:  Those DC Comics 100-Page Giants will be relaunched.  They will no longer be exclusive to Wal-Mart or to Target.  But the Wal-Mart and Target versions will have exclusive covers and will arrive "a couple of weeks" before they hit comic book stores.  The amount of original content will increase from 24 to 36 pages.

From Newsarama:   The CW's "Crisis on Infinite Earth" infinite will loom throughout the entire season of the upcoming Season 6 of "Flash."

From Newsarama:  In October (2019), The Visual Effects Society (VES) will induct Stan Lee into the VES Hall of Fame, along with Walt Disney and Stanley Kubrick.

From Newsarama:  The Harvey Awards have announced the nominees for the 2019 edition of the awards.  The winners will be announced October 4th during New York Comic Con.

From Newsarama:  Marvel New Media and podcast service, Stiticher, will present a podcast adaptation of the classic Marvel miniseries, Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross' "Marvels."  Rapper-actor, Clifford "Method Man" Smith, will be one of the podcast actors.

From BleedingCool:  For his new comic book company, Terrific Productions Inc., Andrew Rev is desparately chasing celebrity and "superstar" comic book creators to work for him.  How'd that work out for Virgin Comics?

From BleedingCool:  Joe Madureira has a history of not keeping the promises he makes to his fans and customers.  The latest letdown is that the "Battle Chaster Anthology" trade paperback (due in September) will have fewer pages than the promised 344 because the "never-before-seen sketches," "new artwork," and the "fold-out poster" are being dropped.

From Newsarama:  Fox's "New Mutants" film is also in trouble with its new owner, Disney.

From Newsarama:  Disney has cancelled the "Lumberjanes" films, based on the comic book, that Fox had planned before Disney bought the studio.

From Deadline:  TV series mastermind, Noah Hawley, says that his movie based on Marvel Comics' "Doctor Doom" is likely not going to happen.  It was one of the projects 20th Century Fox greenlit before Disney bought the studio.

From Newsarama:  Robert Kirkman's imprint, Skybound, has signed a first look deal with with Audible to produce audio content based on Skybound properties.

From THR:  Comic book artist, Alitha E. Martinez, talks about the first issue, "Omni."  It is the latest release from H1, the shared superhero universe from indie publisher Humanoids.  Created with writer Devin Grayson, "Omni" focuses on a doctor with the ability to think at superspeed.

From Deadline:  Jeph Loeb, executive vice-president of Marvel TV, talks to Deadline about future TV series from the television arm of Marvel Entertainment.

From ANN:  Police in Fukuoka, Japan arrested 37-year-old Wataru Adachi on suspicion of uploading unauthorized images from Eiichiro Oda's One Piece manga to the Japanese manga piracy website "Mangamura" in May 2017.

MEMORIAM - From Newsarama:  The long-time comic book artist and editor, Ernie Colon, has died at the age of 88.  Colon co-created the DC Comics' characters, "Arak, Son of Thunder" and "Amethyst Princess of Gemworld" in the 1980s.   He began his career with Harvey Comics (drawing "Richie Rich"), Gold Key (drawing "Solar, Man of Atom"), and Warren Publications (contributing to "Vampirella," "Creepy," and "Eerie").  For Marvel, he co-created the comic book, "Damage Control," with the late Dwayne McDuffie.

From Variety:  Viacom has entered into an agreement with Jim Davis, the creator of the long-running comic strip, "Garfield," to purchase, Paws, Inc.  This is the entity that holds all global intellectual property rights to both “Garfield” and “U.S. Acres,” another Davis comics strip creation.  The deal will close in the next few weeks, although financial terms have not been disclosed.  "Garfield" will join the Nickelodeon portfolio.  David will continue to produce the comic strip.

MEMORIAM - From YahooEntertainment:  American novelist and Nobel laureate Toni Morrison has died at the age of 88, Monday, August 5, 2019.  Among her best known novels were "Beloved" (1987, the 1988 Pulitzer Prize winner) and "Song of Solomon (1977).  In 1993, Morrison was awarded the "Nobel Prize for Literature."
