NEWS:

IMAGE - From BleedingCool:  Image Comics will collect writer Warren Ellis and artist J.H. Williams' six-issue series, "Desolation Jones" (2005-07), in a remastered hardcover volume, entitled "Desolation Jones: The Biohazard Edition."

DARK HORSE - From BleedingCoolJames Robinson launches a new creator-owned line at Dark Horse Comics, beginning with the comic book, "Patra," with artist Scott Kolins in August 2024

WEBCOMICS - From THR:  The hit Webtoon webcomic, "Freaking Romance," will be adapted as a live-action film.  The developers are Robert Kirkman's Skybound Entertainment and Wattpad Webtoon Studios, the screen-based division of Webtoon Entertainment.

MARVEL - From BleedingCoolElektra is Daredevil in the four-issue limited series, "Daredevil: Woman Without Fear."  First issue arrives July 17th, 2024.

DC COMICS - From BleedingCoolDC Comics is launching its own version of Marvel Comics' "Ultimate Comics."  The line is called "Absolute Comics" and its overseer is writer Scott Snyder.  More information about the line is expected at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 (July 25th to 28th).

From THR:  Writer James Tynion IV has written a sequel to his 2021 hit miniseries, "The Nice House by the Lake."  The first issue of the "The Nice House by the Sea" arrives July 24th, 2024.

From DCBlog:  Writer Joshua Williamson talks about DC Comics' next big crossover event, "House of Brainiac."  The event kicked off in "Action Comics #1064," which arrived in comic shops April 10th.

IDW TO FILM - From THRParamount Pictures is developing an R-rated live-action movie based on the the comic book miniseries, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin" (IDW Publishing, 2020-22).

RPG - From ICv2:  Comic book writers David Avallone and David Walker will be among the writers on Magnetic Press' "Planet of the Apes Role-Playing Game" that is being overseen by Andrew E.C. Gaska.  Gaska's work includes the "Terminator RPG" and the "Alien RPG," as well as two "Planet of the Apes" novels.

EN MEMORIAM - From ComicBook:  Author, cartoonist, and comic book writer, artist, and editor, Trina Robbins, has died at the age of 85, Wednesday, April 10, 2024.  Robbins was an early participant in the Underground Comics movement.  She cofounded such Underground publications as "It Ain't Me, Babe Comics," "Wimmen's Comics."  Her best known mainstream work includes "Misty" (1985-86) for Marvel's "Star Comics" imprint and "The Legend of Wonder Woman" (1986) miniseries for DC Comics.  Robbins wrote over 10 non-fiction books about the history of women in American comics.

DC CINEMA/TRAILERS - From Deadline:  At CinemaCon 2024, Warner Bros. debuts the trailer for "Joker: Folie A Deux," which arrives in theaters Oct. 4, 2024.

EUROCOMICS TO FILM - From AnimationMagazine:  French actor-filmmaker Mathieu Kassovitz ("La Haine," Gothika) is planning his "English-language passion project."  It is a live-action/animation feature titled "The Big War."  It would be an adaptation of the 1940s French graphic novel, "La bête est morte!" ("The Beast Is Dead") which was produced by French comics artist and cartoonist, Edmond-François Calvo, known as “The French Walt Disney,” with Victor Dancette and Jaquest Zimmermann providing scripts.  Kassovitz has been working on the script for this project for over 20 years with The Nightmare Before Christmas screenwriter, Caroline Thompson.

COMICS - From BleedingCool:  In the wake of leaving IDW Publishing as "Special Projects Editor," Scott Dunbier has announced that he is starting his own comics publishing company.  Details will trickle out over the coming months with an official announcement as San Diego Comic-Con 2024.

FANTAGRAPHICS - From BleedingCoolFantagraphics Books will publish the 15th issue of the late Joe Matt's comic book series, "Peepshow."  Matt was working on "Peepshow #15" when he died at age 60 last year.  It's has been 17 years since the last issue of "Peepshow" was published.

DC/BOOKS - From DCBlog:  Author Rachel Allen shares an excerpt from her upcoming YA novel, "Harley Quinn: Redemption," which is due in bookstores April 23, 2024.

DC COMICS - From DCBlog:  Writer Tom King and artist Mitch Gerads talk about their creative partnership, from Vertigo's "The Sheriff of Babylon" to the recent collection, "Batman: The Brave and the Bold Vol. 1: The Winning Card."

DARK HORSE - From BleedingCool:  Mike Mignola has revealed his new, folklore-inspired universe, "The Lands Unknown," which is separate from his "Hellboy" universe.  Dark Horse will publish "The Lands Unknown's" debut anthology, "Bowling With Corpses," in November.

IMAGE - From DeadlineMargot Robbie's production company, LuckyChap, is teaming up with director Olivia Wilde for a film based on Rob Liefeld's "Avengelyne" comic book.

From THR:  Comic book creator, Rob Liefeld, best known for creating "Deadpool" for his work on such titles as "New Mutants," "X-Force," and "Youngblood," will publish a memoir.  Entitled "Robservations," it will be published in early 2025.

DC STUDIOS - From DeadlineCraig Gillespie, who directed "Cruella" and "I, Tonya," is in talks to direct DC Studios' "Supergirl" movie.

DC TV - From VarietyNetflix debuts its trailer for "Dead Boy Detectives," a series spin off of its hit series, "The Sandman," which is currently in its second season.  The "Dead Boy Detectives" were created by writer Neil Gaiman and artist Matt Wagner and Malcolm Jones III and first appeared in "The Sandman #25" (DC Comics, April 1991).

DC CINEMA - From DeadlineWarner Bros. has released the first poster image for "Joker: Folie a Deux."  There is also a TikTok video with an audio clip from the film.  The first trailer is scheduled to arrive Tues., April 9th.  The film is due October 4, 2024.

From Variety:  "Joker: Folie a Deux" has received an "R" rating from the MPA (Motion Picture Association) for “some strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality and brief full nudity.”  The film, which will largely be a jukebox musical, is due in theaters Oct. 4th.

EN MEMORIAM - From BleedingCool:  Cartoonist and comic book creator, Ed Piskor, has died at the age of 41, Monday, April 1, 2024.  Piskor first gained acclaim for his webcomic, "Hip Hop Family Tree," which Fantagraphics Books collected in book form and also as a comic book series.  For Marvel Comics, Piskor wrote and drew three "X-Men: Grand Design" miniseries, which chronicled the history of the X-Men in exacting detail, using a multitude of X-Men comic books as reference.  Fantagraphics had been publishing his webcomic, "Red Room," as a series of miniseries.

DYNAMITE - From YouTubeDynamite Entertainment has created a "trailer" for its upcoming "Space Ghost" comic book.  First issue is due in stores May 1, 2024.

CRIME - From BleedingCool:  Artist Marc Hempel and Mark Wheatley have discovered that decades of their original art, scripts, and production materials were stolen from their Insight Studios warehouse over a period of time.  Apparently, the original thief is deceased, and the stolen property was unknowingly sold as part of his estate.  Hempel and Wheatley discovered the theft when the stolen items began being openly auctioned online.

EN MEMORIAM - From BleedingCool:  Veteran comic book artist, Mark D. Bright, has died at the age of 68, Wednesday, March 27, 2024.  Bright drew 22 of the 31 issues (200-231) of Marvel's "Iron Man," including the "Armor Wars" storyline.  For DC Comics, he drew the "Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn" (1989-90) and "Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn II" (1991) miniseries.  He may be best known for creating the "Quantum & Woody" for Acclaim Comics in 1997.  Bright drew 17 of the 18 issues of the original "Quantum & Woody" comic book series (1997-97).  In his later career, Bright was a storyboard artist who worked in film, television, and TV commercials.

IDW - From BleedingCoolIDW "Special Projects Editor" Scott Dunbier has confirmed the news tha the is leaving the company.  His last day is Fri., April 5th.  He will announce his next move Mon., April 8th.

DARK HORSE - From BleedingCool:  Now that Mark Millar has moved his Millarworld imprint to Dark Horse Comics, he has announced its upcoming titles.  The new titles are "Nemesis Rogue's Gallery" (July 2024).  Other upcoming titles include "Prodigy: Slaves of Mars," "Night Club 2," "The Magic Order 5," and a final series of "Jupiter's Legacy."

IMAGE - From DynamicForces:  Writer David Avallone talks about his upcoming 12-issue comic book series, "Drawing Blood," which is being published by Image Comics.  Avallone wrote the series Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," who also contributes art to this new series.  "Drawing Blood #1" is scheduled to arrive in stores April 24th.

DC STUDIOS - From Deadline:   DC Studios co-boss, James Gunn, says that the studio will not greenlight "The Authority" movie until they have finished a script they are happy with.

MARVEL - From GamesRadarMarvel Comics is publishing a new "X-Men" miniseries that fills that gap between Fox's 1990s "X-Men" (1992-97) animated television series and the new Disney+ animated series, "X-Men '97."  The first issue is now on sale, and "X-Men '97 #1" is due April 10th.

BRITISH COMICS - From BleedingCool:  Writer Gail Simone is helping revive 1970s British horror comic, "Misty," via a new anthology, "The Misty 2024 Special."  The comic is due in the U.K. sometime in July and likely in the U.S. sometime in August.

NEWS:

MANGA - From BleedingCoolYen Press is going to release an English-language edition of the graphic novel adaptation of the novel, "The Three-Body Problem."  Author Liu Cixin's novel has also been adapted into a Netflix live-action series.  The publication date will be announced at a later date.

IMAGE ANIMATION - From Deadline:  The fallout from the controversial behavior of actor Ezra Miller ("The Flash") continues.  His role on Amazon's "Invincible" has been recast.  At the end of Season One of the animated series based on Robert Kirkman's Image Comics title, Miller provided the voice of mad scientist, "D.A. Sinclair."  When the character recently returned in Season Two, he was voiced by Eric Bauza.

DC COMICS - From DCBlog:  The team behind, "Superman: Space Age" (2022), writer Mark Russell and artist Mike Allred, talk about their new "Batman" comic book miniseries, "Batman: Dark Age."

SDCC/FILM - From Deadline:  Emmy and Academy Award nominated producer David Permut and filmmaker Oscar Boyson are teaming up with author/filmmaker Mathew Klickstein to bring the San Diego Comic-Con origin story to life for the first time on screen in a new documentary.  It is based on Klickstein’s 2022 book, "See You at San Diego: An Oral History of Comic-Con, Fandom, and the Triumph of Geek Culture."

DC CINEMA - From CBR:  According to an insider report, "The Batman II" will begin principal photography April 2025.  Also, casting announcements won't be made before this coming Fall.

IDW - From YouTubeIDW Publishing has released a video to promote its upcoming "Batman: Year One Artist's Edition" (featuring the art of David Mazzuchelli), with commentary by Mike Mignola.

DC COMICS - From BleedingCoolDC will celebrate Batman's 85th anniversary this year (1939-2024), and part of the celebration is a new logo.

DC CINEMA - From Variety:  The musical sequel to Joker (2019), entitled "Joker: Folie a Deux," will include 15 cover songs.  It will also include original songs, but the exact number of those remains a mystery.

DC TV - From Variety:  Warner Bros. has released a teaser trailer for its upcoming HBO Max series, "The Penguin," starring Colin Farrell in the title role.  The series is a spinoff of the 2022 film, The Batman, and is due in the Fall.

DC COMICS - From DCBlog:  Writer Nicole Maines talks about two new DC projects: "Suicide Squad: Dream Team" and the YA graphic novel, "Bad Dream: A Dreamer Story."

COMICS TO FILM - From THR:  Filmmaker Alex Proyas has maintained that his 1994 film, "The Crow" should not get a reboot out of respect for his film's star, the late Brandon Lee, who died as a result of an on-set firearm accident.  Thus, Proyas has disavowed "The Crow" reboot film, which is set for release June 7th, 2024.

DC STUDIOS - From THR:  Beloved DC Comics' super-team, the "Teen Titans," will get its own live-action movies.  The film will be written by Ana Nogueira, who is also writing the screenplay for "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow."

DC ANIMATION - From CBRWIT Studio has revealed the third trailer for it anime film, "Suicide Squad: ISEKAI."  The film is set for a June 2024 Japanese release.

DC COMICS - From DCBlog:  A look at the first women to write for DC Comics, including Leigh Brackett, Barbara Friedlander, and Mary Skrenes, to name a few.

MARVEL - From BleedingCoolMarvel Comics releases a press release at SXSW that reveals its upcoming plans for its "X-Men" line of comic books.  This includes a back-to-basics "Uncanny X-Men" title written by Gail Simone.

DC COMICS - From DCBlog:  Kelly Thompson talks the past, present, and future of "Birds of Prey."

SONY MARVEL U - From Variety:  "Venom 3" has an official title, "Venom: The Last Dance."  It's new release date is Oct. 25th, 2024, up from the previous date of Nov. 8th.

DC STUDIOS - From IGNWarner Bros. has changed the release date for "The Batman 2," the sequel to the hit film, The Batman (2021).  The film has moved from its recent October 2025 release date to Oct. 2nd, 2026.

IMAGE - From BleedingCoolRobert Kirkman's Skybound imprint has the license to publish "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers" comics, which Kirkman publishes via a shared universe, the "Energon Universe."  In under a year, Energon Universe comics have sold over a million copies.

DC COMICS - From BleedingCool:  Writer Mariko Tamaki and artist Javier Rodriguez are producing an "adults-only" Zatanna graphic novel for DC's "Black Label."  Entitled "Zatanna: Bring Down the House," it is scheduled for a June 25th release.

EN MEMORIAM - From ANN:  The Japanese manga artist and character designer, Akira Toriyama, has died at the age of 68, Friday, March 1, 2024.  Toriyama is best known for creating the seminal Japanese manga (comic book), "Dragon Ball," which was originally serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" from 1984 to 1955.  "Dragon Ball" would go on to become a massive media franchise that included live-action and animated films and television series, action figures, video games, and more.  VIZ Media's Dragon Ball 3-in-1 Edition, Volume 1 collects the first 36 chapters of the "Dragon Ball" manga.

DC COMICS - From DCBlog:  Writer Dan Jurgens and artist Mike Perkins talk about their new miniseries, "The Bat-Man: First Knight."

DC STUDIOS - From DCBlogJames Gunn's Superman movie begins production with a new title, "Superman," changed from the previously announced "Superman: Legacy."

IMAGE - From ComicsBeat:  At Seattle's Emerald City Comic Con, Image Comics plans to introduce the wave of talent and new projects for 2024.

NEWS:

MARVEL - From BleedingCool:  Marvel Comics is apparently committing to a $3.99 price point on more of its comic books.  Currently, about half are $3.99 and half are $4.99.

EN MEMORIAM - From BleedingCool:  Comic book artist, Ramona Fradon, has died at the age of 97, Saturday, February 24, 2024.  Fradon was best known for drawing the Aquaman comic in "Adventure Comics for over 100 issues over a period from 1951 to 1961.  She penciled just about every issue of the "Super Friends" comic book (1977-81).  Fradon created the DC Comics' superhero, "Metamorpho," and she drew the "Brenda Starr, Reporter," newspaper comic strip from 1982 to 1995.  Fradon's career began in 1950 and lasted until her recent retirement in January 2024.

DC ANIMATION - From YouTube:  DC Comics has released an official trailer for the animated film, "Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part Two."

DARK HORSE - From THRDark Horse Comics will publish an eight-issue comic book adaptation of Neil Gaiman's 2005 novel, "Anansi Boys."  The adaptation will be written by Marc Bernardin and drawn by Shawn Martinbrough.

EC COMICS - From NewYorkTimesOni Press is reviving EC Comics.

From BleedingCoolLee Bermejo, Jason Aaron, and Rodney Barnes are among the first creators to join Oni Press' EC Comics revival.

From BleedingCool: The new partnership that is reviving "EC Comics" is being overseen by Oni Press President & Publisher Hunter Gorinson and Editor-in-Chief Sierra Hahn alongside Cathy Gaines Mifsud and Corey Mifsud, the daughter and grandson of legendary EC Publisher William M. Gaines and administrators of William M. Gaines Agent, Inc.  Writer Brian Azzarello is the latest big name creator to join the revival.

SONY/MARVEL - From AwardsWatch:  At the 51st Annie Awards, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" wins in all six categories in which it was nominated, including "Best Feature."

TOP SHELF/BOOK NEWS - From BleedingCoolAlan Moore and the late Steve Moore's long, long-awaited book, "The Moon and Serpent Bumper Book of Magic," will finally arrive in October 2024.  Co-published by Top Shelf Productions and Knockabout LTD (UK), the book will be 352 pages in length at a cost of $49.99.  It is available to preorder from several outlets including Amazon.

DC COMICS - From DCBlog:  Artist Shawn Martinbrough speaks about his new series, "Red Hood: The Hill."  Martinbrough will write and Sanford Greene will draw the series.  "Red Hood: The Hill #1" is now in stories and available digitally.

COMICS TO HOLLYWOOD - From Forbes:  Bestselling comic book writer, James Tynion IV, announced a new business venture, "Tiny Onion." The company is billed as a “full stack production house” for the development, packaging, marketing and cross-platform promotion of new creator-owned work. Media-oriented venture capital firm, Lyrical Media, has stepped forward with a low seven-figure investment in Tiny Onion’s seed round.

DARK HORSE TO TV - From DeadlineNetflix's "The Umbrella Academy," which is based on Gerard Way's comic book series, will begin its fourth and final season on August 8, 2024.

EN MEMORIAM - From BleedingCool:  British comic book artist, writer, and editor, Paul Neary, has died at the age of 74, Saturday, February 10, 2024.  Neary was editor-in-chief at Marvel UK from 1990 to 1993; wrote scripts for "Doctor Who Weekly;" and penciled Marvel Comics' 1988 Nick Fury vs. S.H.I.E.L.D. miniseries.  However, Neary was best known for his work as an inker, inking Alan Davis' pencils, most notably on Marvel's "Excalibur comic books (1988-90).  His most famous work as an inker may be inking Bryan Hitch's pencils over the better part of a decade, beginning in 1999.  Neary inked Hitch on "The Authority" (1999) and "The Ultimates" and "The Ultimates 2" (from 2002 to 2007).

MARVEL STUDIOS - From THRMarvel Studios has found its "Fantastic Four." Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn will star as the heroes in the "Fantastic Four" feature.

From JoBlo:  The site gives up everything that it knows about Marvel Studios' long-in-development "Blade" film which is set to star Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali in the title role.

MARVEL/DC COMICS - From BleedingCoolMarvel and DC confirm that they will publish two Omnibuses reprinting all DC/Marvel crossovers and their Amalgam comics line.  The collections are set to release on August 6th, 2024, with rich content listings.  The two books are "DC Versus Marvel Omnibus" and "DC/Marvel: The Amalgam Age Omnibus."

From BleedingCoolMarvel and DC Comics will reunite to republish their "Amalgam" line of crossovers and also other iconic crossover comic books.

MARVEL STUDIOS - From YouTube:  "Deadpool & Wolverine" have a trailer and is due in theaters July 26th.  Deadpool declares himself "Marvel Jesus" in the film.

MARVEL - From BleedingCoolThe Punisher hunts Nick Fury in "Get Fury," a Marvel MAX miniseries from writer Garth Ennis and artist Jacen Burrows.

From ComicBook:  "Venom: Separation Anxiety" is another retro-set series like 2022's 
"Venom: Lethal Protector."  It will be written by "Lethal Protector's" scribe David Micheline and is set in Venom/Eddie Brock's early days.

COMICS - From GamesRadar:  Sabir Pizada was one of the writers of Marvel Studios' "Moon Knight" streaming series, and he is co-writing the current adventures of Ms. Marvel Kamala Khan for Marvel Comics.  Now, he is making his debut in creator-owned comics with "Dandelion," a one-shot anthology of sci-fi stories all written by Pirzada with each story drawn by a different artist. 

ART - From BleedingCool:  Apparently a large number of comic book artists who were represented by art sales agency, Cadence Comic Art, are departing the company.

BOOKS - From BleedingCool:  In a recent social media post, author George R.R. Martin ("A Game of Thrones") says, "Now social media is ruled by anti-fans who would rather talk about the stuff they hate than the stuff they love and delight in dancing on the graves of anyone whose film has flopped."  He is certainly talking about a subset of comic book and superhero fans.

DC COMICS - From DCBlog:  Author N.K. Jemisin talks about her return to the world of her 12-issue miniseries, "Far Sector" (2019-2021, drawn by Jamal Campbell), in a short story for "DC Power 2024" one-shot special.

IMAGE - From BleedingCoolJim Valentino, comics creator and publisher, wants to set the record straight about his time at Image Comics.
