Howard Chaykin, Klaus Janson Workshop at Baltimore Comic-Con

Klaus Janson & Howard Chaykin Offer Artist's Workshop at the 2010 Baltimore Comic-Con

With over seventy five years of cumulative experience in the comic book industry, Klaus Janson and Howard Chaykin are all-too-well-versed in the ins and outs of making a career in our inkstained - and now, with all that digital stuff, carpal tunneled - business.

For the past few years, Klaus and Howard have been conducting an Artist's Workshop for Marvel, offering invaluable insights, gleaned from those decades of experience, on narrative, storytelling, page design, and career management.

They've developed a fluid and comprehensive take on the inside game played by successful cartoonists - and a series of direct and vital techniques intended to drag newer talents out of a hobby and into a profession - without ever losing the joy all of us experience when we ply our craft.

Klaus and Howard have taken their seminar on the road to the renowned Savannah College of Art & Design, to great acclaim from students and faculty alike, and now they're bringing a customized version of the workshop to the 2010 Baltimore Comic-Con.

On Saturday, August 28th, from 1 PM to 4 PM, Messrs. Janson and Chaykin will entertain and enlighten with a lively, spirited, and very likely prickly and opinionated dissertation, followed, from 4 PM to 5 PM, by an hour of honest dissection of the work of several lucky attendees. All class registrants will be eligible for the dissesction lottery, so bring some of your work if you want to hear from these two very honest men!

You'll come away informed, enthusiastic, or downright annoyed-but we guarantee you won't be bored, and that you'll never look at comics the same way again.

To register for this very special class, please call our host store Cards, Comics, & Collectibles @ 410-526-7410. The cost for this professional seminar is $75. Major credit cards will be accepted for payment. The hour of honest dissection from 4-5pm will be exciting programming available to all ticketed attendees of the Baltimore Comic-Con. Register now while space is still available!

Publishers exhibiting in 2010 include Archaia Comics, Adhouse Books Boom! Studios, Dark Horse Comics, IDW, Image Comics, Top Cow Productions, and Top Shelf Comix.

"I'm very honored to be invited to attend the show this year," said Michael, "And meet my friends in Puerto Rico. I am also happy to see such a healthy community interested in sequential art here on the island, and meet fans that I haven't met before. That is always gratifying."

Touted for his groundbreaking storytelling and cover construction, Golden is known for his unique art style that a various times seems detailed and at other times seems to be amazingly streamlined--cutting away the excess and maintaining the true essentials of a piece. These techniques, coupled with that signature storytelling construction garner him a legion of devotees that number not only comic readers, but other artists as well.

Co-creator of the X-Men's Rogue character, Golden's work has appeared in the 'Nam, Micronauts, G.I. Joe Yearbook, Dr. Strange, Nightwing, Detective, Heroes for Hire, Exiles, Demon's Regret and Iron Man among much more. Golden, modestly never says which is his own personal favorite project. However, according to one art dealer, "Everybody in the business has been influenced by Golden's Dr. Strange". Michael himself admits that more artists that say he has an influence on their illustration career, do single out that influential project.

Other milestones in Golden's career include the co-creation of Bucky O'Hare, witch led to an animated series and toy line designed by Michael, as well as Spartan X with Editor/Writer Renee Witterstaeter, who is also attending the show this year!

At the show, Mr. Golden will be sketching, signing books, and offering his new art book: "Michael Golden: More Heroes and Villains," to the fans at the PRCC!

Michael Golden, Steve Scott Debut Sketchbooks at Planet ComiCon

Double Trouble at Planet ComiCon!

Michael Golden and Steve Scott Debut New Books at the show

Finally, the long-awaited and much anticipated, second in a series sketchbook, from artist/creator MICHAEL GOLDEN is NOW available! "Michael Golden: MORE Heroes &Villains," is in the house! And Planet ComiCon, being one of Michael's favorite shows, will be one of the first places where this book is offered!

Now for some bad news....somehow 420 of this already limited volume have disappeared somewhere between the printer in Hong Kong and our warehouse in New England--less than 600 available worldwide!

A follow up to the popular "Heroes & Villains," sketchbook of last year, this new volume is a must have for collectors of Golden's awesome storytelling and spot on illustration. Co-creator of Rogue from the X-Men, Bucky O'Hare, Spartan X, and illustrator on "Dr. Strange," "The 'Nam," "G.I. Joe," "Avengers," "Marvel Fanfare," and much, much more, none of Michael's art in this new book appears in any other art book or sketchbook on the market!

The volume itself is album sized, full color, and 48 pages in length, and features many of Golden's sketches from the 2009 season and some old favorites as well.

MORE good news for you fortunate few: If you do snag one of these books, it will be even more collectible. Be sure to get your order in now, or catch us at PlanetComiCon! Be One of the 600!

Comic artist STEVE SCOTT is debuting his new 32 page sketchbook as well, "Steve Scott Sketches," at PlanetComiCon to celebrate his first time appearing at the show! The book is limited to 1,000 copies, and comes in either signed editions or original sketch editions.

Steve's work can currently be seen on the upcoming "X-Men Forever" series with writer Chris Claremont. Not to mention that Steve is also the ONLY artist tapped by DC Comics to do any work relating to "Batman Forever," depicting the now legendary turn of Heath Ledger as The Joker. Look for Steve's work in the Blue-Ray disc release of the movie!

Steve is indeed certainly no stranger to media tie-in's. His work has also often been seen on the television show Smallville and in other special projects for DC Comics. As well as doing some darn good likenessess for the recent "Indiana Jones--Tomb of the Gods," comic book series for Dark Horse to tie-in with the recent Harrison Ford movie! In fact, George Lucas liked Steve's work so much that he purchased most of the originals to keep for himself!

Recently returned from a signing tour in Belgium, France and the Netherlands, and Spain look for more of Steve's work on "X-Men Forever," "Green Lantern," as well as some surprises to be announced soon!

Other guests joining Michael Golden and Steve Scott at PCC include: Lou Ferrigno, Mira Furlan, Helen Slater, Jane Wiedlin, Talent Caldwell, Tommy Castillo, Dave Dorman, Gary Friedrich, Phil Hester, Greg Horn, Joe Jusko, B.
