A new suite of programs will empower more Creators to achieve their dreams on WEBTOON, with expanded monetization opportunities, international creator engagement, and more

After a successful pilot program in 2025, WEBTOON’s new Creator Residency will officially roll out in 2026

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--WEBTOON Entertainment Inc. (Nasdaq: WBTN), a global entertainment company and home to some of the world’s largest storytelling platforms, today announced a major expansion of its Creator Programs in 2026, offering more tools, support, and new opportunities to build a career on WEBTOON. Rolling out throughout 2026, WEBTOON’s new suite of Creator support initiatives will include expanded monetization opportunities, new convention and event support, and new educational programming for career development. WEBTOON’s new Creator initiatives will kick off with a Creator Residency program, officially launching in Q1 2026.

    Creators are the heart of WEBTOON, and everything we do begins with their passion, their stories, and their trust.

Combining hands-on support, opportunities to connect with fellow storytellers, and new ways to grow creatively and professionally, WEBTOON’s expanded Creator Programs will empower Creators to take their work and careers to the next level. In 2026, WEBTOON will launch new and improved monetization for CANVAS Creators to earn money from their work, alongside a new dashboard that will make it easier for Creators to understand their series performance. More details about new monetization and dashboard features will be shared in early 2026.

To help Creators get closer to their fandoms, WEBTOON will increase its investment in Creators at key industry events, bringing more Creators to major US conventions where they can meet and grow their fandoms. For the first time, WEBTOON will also expand its on-the-ground presence at fan conventions in select international markets outside the US, Korea, and Japan, hosting Creator meet-ups and offering portfolio reviews for international Creators in Europe and Southeast Asia.

To better support Creators, in 2026, WEBTOON’s Creator Care teams will start digital Open Houses for creators who are new to the platform. Creators can meet with WEBTOON’s Creator Care and Editorial teams to discuss their goals and how to make the most of their WEBTOON journey. WEBTOON will also launch a redesigned Creator Resource Hub, where a new video series will highlight creator experiences and success stories, offering practical tips and inspiration from some of WEBTOON’S most accomplished creators.

Introducing the WEBTOON Creator Residency Program and Korea Trip:

WEBTOON’s revamped Creator Programs will kick off with a new Creator Residency. Held twice a year, the Creator Residency program will invite Original Creators from the English-language service to a two-week in-person workshop at the company’s LA headquarters. Groups of up to nine Creators will attend an immersive development experience offering unprecedented access to WEBTOON’s editorial resources and expertise. Residency participants will work closely with WEBTOON editors in dedicated story-building sessions, attend development workshops, and meet with teams across the company for a deeper look at WEBTOON’s offerings and ecosystem. Designed to give creators the time, focus, and hands-on support they need to refine their craft, WEBTOON will hold two Creator Residencies in 2026, with applications for the first session open on December 18, 2026. Creators can apply via the Creator Portal.

Alongside the Creator Residency program, WEBTOON will introduce a VIP recognition program for select creators, inviting them to Korea to experience the home of webcomics, visit WEBTOON’s Korean office, meet industry leaders, and connect with global talent.

WEBTOON’s Creator Residency will formally launch after a year-long pilot program that hosted 23 creators in 2025. Pilot program participants included globally-renowned WEBTOON Creators Junepurrr (SubZero), instantmiso (Siren’s Lament, Fae Trapped), Ucheomaaa (Vibe Check!), SLEEPACROSS (Hand Jumper), and others, along with several winners from the 2025 Webcomic Legends Contest. Over the course of the program, creators received dedicated 1:1 time with their editors, joined small-group workshops on topics like writing and building sustainable production workflows, and even took part in complimentary physical therapy sessions to support physical well-being.

Disney and WEBTOON Entertainment Broaden Relationship to Create New Digital Comics Platform

For The First Time, More Than 35,000 Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, Pixar and 20th Century Studios Digital Comic Books Will Be Available in One Digital Platform for Fans to Experience

Disney+ subscribers will have access to a curated selection of content on the new platform as part of subscription

BURBANK, Calif. & LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) and WEBTOON Entertainment (NASDAQ: WBTN) today announced that Disney and WEBTOON have entered into a non-binding term sheet for the development of an all-new digital comics platform that will feature current comic book runs and include decades of past comics from across Disney’s portfolio including Marvel, Star Wars, 20th Century Studios and more.

For the first time, more than 35,000 comics from Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, Pixar and 20th Century Studios will be available in a single digital comics service with one convenient subscription, adding more stories than ever before in one location. As an expansion upon Marvel Unlimited, Marvel's current digital comics subscription service, the new platform which will be built and operated by WEBTOON Entertainment, will provide decades of iconic comics for current Marvel Unlimited subscribers and bring in even more fans to experience storytelling from across the Disney portfolio along with a selection of WEBTOON Original stories. The new platform will include a mix of vertical and traditional formats for archived comics, current comic book runs and original stories.

As part of the Disney+ Perks program, Disney+ subscribers who want to further explore the stories behind some of their favorite franchises will be able to access a curated selection of comic titles in the new app at no additional charge.

WEBTOON Entertainment and Disney previously announced a multi-year collaboration featuring nearly 100 reformatted classics and all-new original series tailored for WEBTOON’s vertical-scroll format.

The proposed equity investment and the commercial collaboration are subject to the parties entering into definitive agreements on mutually agreeable terms and customary closing conditions.

Abrams ComicArts to Publish John Byrne's "X-MEN: ELSEWHEN" in Three Volumes

NEW YORK, NY—Abrams ComicArts is thrilled to announce an expansion of its Marvel Arts line of original graphic novels featuring Marvel Comics characters with X-Men Elsewhen by writer/artist John Byrne.

X-Men Elsewhen is a three-volume series celebrating both the 50-year history of Marvel’s X-Men team featuring fan-favorite creations such as Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, and Nightcrawler; and also the culmination of longtime writer/artist John Byrne’s five decades of association with these characters.

X-Men Elsewhen began nearly seven years ago and featured John Byrne’s return to the X-Men, the comic-book franchise he helped grow to new heights with his work as co-plotter and artist alongside writer Chris Claremont and inker Terry Austin. That trio’s time on the series has served as inspiration for films, animated series, and numerous comic books that followed. Among the high-water marks co-plotted and illustrated by Byrne during this initial go-round were classic storylines, “The Dark Phoenix Saga” and “Days of Future Past.”

In X-Men Elsewhen, written and penciled by Byrne, inked by Byrne and Paul Wills, colored by Lovern Kindzierski and Leonard O’Grady, and lettered by Byrne and Patrick Brosseau, the central conceit of the series involves Byrne’s return to those storylines, albeit with one major difference: the culmination of the “Dark Phoenix Saga” saw Jean Grey, the Phoenix, make the ultimate sacrifice to save the universe from her power, which had grown too great for her to contain. In Elsewhen, however, the storyline picks up from that point but explores the never-published ending where Jean Grey survived the experience, albeit in a drastically altered fashion.

That story change results in an entirely different future for the team and the surrounding Marvel Universe of characters. In X-Men Elsewhen Volume 1, the characters return to Earth and face very different experiences in the Savage Land and beyond, in an expansive storyline that also features the Sentinels, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, Spider-Man, and many other familiar faces.

X-Men Elsewhen is a three-volume series being released as part of Abrams ComicArts’ Marvel Arts line, which includes Alex Ross’s Fantastic Four: Full Circle; The Super Hero’s Journey by Patrick McDonnell; and The Avengers: Veracity Trip by Chip Kidd and Michael Cho. Elsewhen will contain over 600 pages of Byrne’s story in art across its three volumes. Volume one will be released in April 2026, with subsequent volumes releasing in Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. All three volumes will be released as 7.5 x 11 hardcovers with dust jackets, and feature well over 200 pages of story and art per volume, along with a number of additional features.

Tapas Entertainment and Kickstarter Partner for Short Comic Contest

LOS ANGELES, CA — Tapas Entertainment, a leading digital publishing platform, is partnering with Kickstarter, the leading crowdfunding and launch platform for creative projects of every size, to invite creators and storytellers from around the globe to participate in a new short comic contest under the theme “Daydreaming.” Entries must be submitted to Tapas’ Community Platform between June 3 and August 17, 2025.

Winners will gain more than recognition. Selected by a panel of comics experts from Tapas and Kickstarter, the Top 5 creators will receive cash prizes, with $3,000 USD awarded to the first-place winner. Court Approves Sale of Diamond Comic Distributors to Combined Bidders

HUNT VALLEY, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Diamond Comic Distributors (“Diamond” or “the Company”), today announced that the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland (“the Court”) has approved a combined bid by Universal Distribution LLC (“Universal”) and Ad Populum to acquire the assets of Diamond Comic Distributors. Under the agreement, Universal will acquire the assets of Alliance Game Distributors, and Ad Populum will acquire the assets of Diamond Comic Distributors, Diamond Book Distributors, Diamond Select Toys & Collectibles, Collectible Grading Authority, and other related assets. Diamond UK remains separate from this sale process. The transaction is subject to final closing.

Lunar Distribution to Begin Distributing Archie Comics Beginning May 2025


ARCHIE COMICS SIGNS WITH LUNAR DISTRIBUTION

New partnership gives retailers an additional option for stocking Archie's line of comic books, digests, and graphic novels 

Archie Comics has signed a deal with Lunar Distribution to distribute its publications to the comic book Direct Market. The new partnership is in addition to Archie's existing relationship with Diamond Comic Distributors. Archie titles will go live with Lunar on March 21, 2025 for product shipping in May 2025.

The move is a response to Diamond's declaration of Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January. In a letter to retailers sent this week, Archie said, "While we value our decades-long partnership with Diamond, and sincerely hope that they pull through this in time, we've also been fielding questions, and requests for an alternate distribution channel."  

While comic shops can continue ordering Archie products from Diamond, all Archie single issues, digests, and graphic novels will be available from Lunar, as well. Retailers who have questions about stocking Archie Comics titles can reach out at info@archiecomics.com.

HUNT VALLEY, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Diamond Comic Distributors (“Diamond” or “the Company”), today announced that the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland (“the Court”) has approved Diamond’s $41 million debtor-in-possession (“DIP”) financing agreement with JP Morgan Chase.

HUNT VALLEY, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Diamond Comic Distributors (“Diamond” or “the Company”), announced that it has filed a voluntary petition for relief under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland to facilitate the restructuring of its business. As part of the restructuring process, Diamond has received a $39 million stalking horse bid from an affiliate of Universal Distribution (“Universal”) for Alliance Game Distributors.

The Company has received commitments for up to $41 million in debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing from JP Morgan Chase that will be used to fund post-petition operating expenses and ensure adequate working capital to meet its obligations to associates and suppliers.

In addition to securing DIP financing, and a stalking horse bid for Alliance Game Distributors, Diamond has received strong interest in its specialized business divisions, having also entered into a Non-Binding Letter of Intent (LOI) with Universal to acquire Diamond UK. Diamond is actively pursuing offers for, and has received interest from potential purchasers for, its other business units, including Diamond Book Distributors, Collectible Grading Authority, and Diamond Select Toys, as well as its main comic, toy, and collectible distribution lines.
