Launching in spring 2025, the contest will celebrate 40 outstanding webcomic entries with cash prizes and the chance to join the WEBTOON Originals program

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--WEBTOON Entertainment Inc. (“WEBTOON”), a leading global entertainment company and home to some of the world’s largest storytelling platforms, is on the hunt for the next wave of visionary webcomic creators with “Webcomic Legends,” a new contest with over USD $1 million in prizes. The contest will highlight emerging talent on WEBTOON’s CANVAS platform, rewarding 40 outstanding webcomics with cash prizes and the opportunity to join the WEBTOON Originals program.

“We are constantly on the lookout for incredible stories to celebrate and elevate at WEBTOON, and ‘Webcomic Legends’ will continue our tradition of creating opportunities to spotlight diverse new series and talent.”

Launching on March 10, 2025, creators from around the world can submit to “Webcomic Legends” on WEBTOON’s English language CANVAS platform. Future legends can submit stories across four genre categories: Most Epic (Action/Fantasy); Most Feels (Romance/Drama); Most Laughs (Comedy/Slice of Life); and Most Gripping (Horror/Thriller/Mystery/Supernatural). Entries will be evaluated by a combination of scoring from a panel of expert judges, including WEBTOON’s in-house editorial team and select WEBTOON Originals creators, and audience appeal and engagement.

The “Webcomic Legends” prize breakdown includes:

-- Grand Prize Winner (1): a total of $150,000

-- Genre Winners (3): a total of $100,000 each

-- Genre Finalists (12): a total of $35,000 each

-- Genre Runner-Ups (24): a total of $5,500 each

In addition to the cash prizes, all 40 winners will have the chance to pitch their title to join the WEBTOON Originals lineup, where they can develop their series as an ongoing story with the support of the WEBTOON editorial team.

Lunar Distribution to Begin Distributing Archie Comics Beginning May 2025

ARCHIE COMICS SIGNS WITH LUNAR DISTRIBUTION

New partnership gives retailers an additional option for stocking Archie's line of comic books, digests, and graphic novels 

Archie Comics has signed a deal with Lunar Distribution to distribute its publications to the comic book Direct Market. The new partnership is in addition to Archie's existing relationship with Diamond Comic Distributors. Archie titles will go live with Lunar on March 21, 2025 for product shipping in May 2025.

The move is a response to Diamond's declaration of Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January. In a letter to retailers sent this week, Archie said, "While we value our decades-long partnership with Diamond, and sincerely hope that they pull through this in time, we've also been fielding questions, and requests for an alternate distribution channel."  

While comic shops can continue ordering Archie products from Diamond, all Archie single issues, digests, and graphic novels will be available from Lunar, as well. Retailers who have questions about stocking Archie Comics titles can reach out at info@archiecomics.com.

HUNT VALLEY, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Diamond Comic Distributors (“Diamond” or “the Company”), announced that it has filed a voluntary petition for relief under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland to facilitate the restructuring of its business. As part of the restructuring process, Diamond has received a $39 million stalking horse bid from an affiliate of Universal Distribution (“Universal”) for Alliance Game Distributors.

The Company has received commitments for up to $41 million in debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing from JP Morgan Chase that will be used to fund post-petition operating expenses and ensure adequate working capital to meet its obligations to associates and suppliers.

In addition to securing DIP financing, and a stalking horse bid for Alliance Game Distributors, Diamond has received strong interest in its specialized business divisions, having also entered into a Non-Binding Letter of Intent (LOI) with Universal to acquire Diamond UK. Diamond is actively pursuing offers for, and has received interest from potential purchasers for, its other business units, including Diamond Book Distributors, Collectible Grading Authority, and Diamond Select Toys, as well as its main comic, toy, and collectible distribution lines.

Archie Comics' "THE WICKED TRINITY" Arrives June 12th

SABRINA'S MAGICAL WORLD IS ROCKED BY THREE NEW FOES

Bad witches Amber, Sapphire, and Jade join forces in THE WICKED TRINITY from Archie Comics in June

There's a whole coven of trouble in store for Archie Comics readers this June (2024). A trio of witches with vengeance and power on their minds hits the halls of Greendale High, Sabrina Spellman's stomping grounds, in THE WICKED TRINITY, an all-new one-shot comic book written by Sam Maggs with art by Lisa Sterle.

“Real witches writing real witches — that's how we do things over at Archie Comics!" Maggs said. I was named after a famous witch — Samantha from Bewitched — and so I grew up absolutely obsessed with everything witchcraft, devouring every book series I could about teen witches. That makes WICKED TRINITY a dream project for me."

The titular trinity — Amber Nightstone, Jade Kazane, and Sapphire Gill — debuted in Archie's classic-look line of kids' comics over the past year, where they embark on an ongoing plot to usurp the status of various magic-wielders. Their abilities and personalities reflect the elements from which they derive their powers: fire, wind, and water respectively. THE WICKED TRINITY will be their first appearance in Archie's line of comics for older readers.

“When Editor-In-Chief Mike Pellerito came up with the idea of the Wicked Trinity, I was immediately intrigued," said Archie Comics Senior Director of Editorial Jamie L. Rotante. "I even had the good fortune to work on the script for Jade and Sapphire’s first appearance in last year’s Sabrina Annual Spectacular comic for younger readers. What I especially loved about these magical teens is that they could seamlessly transcend from classic-Archie stories into more mature, even horror stories. I was eager to start developing their world with a modern sensibility, taking cues from the great work of Kelly Thompson and Veronica Fish on our Sabrina the Teenage Witch series, and Sarah Kuhn and Carola Borelli on our recent Darkling one-shot. Inspired by series like "Charmed" and films like "The Craft," I knew there was so much potential to build up this coven in a story that beautifully blends magical fantasy with horror.”

Those recent comics mark a renewed focus on the "dark academia" genre for Archie, centering teenage friends with magical powers in horror-tinged stories set in mysterious gothic academies harboring dark secrets. 

"The power and energy of teen girls is absolutely unmatched," Maggs added, "and being able to harness that metaphorically for a story like this is such a delight. Everything I write focuses on the power of female friendship, and this story is no exception. And what's better than a morally grey female character? I struggle to think of anything. Cat familiars, maybe? Also, I'm totally a practicing witch now. So maybe if you read this, you'll find yourself imbued with magical powers, too."

Sterle added, “I love to create stories in which girls find their own power, both from within themselves and through their friendships and coven. If you’re a fan of my Modern Witch tarot, you’ll find this comic just as magical. Witches, fashion, and Archie Comics; this is truly a magical trifecta and I’m so happy to have the opportunity to put my own personal stamp on this. I can’t wait for people to be re-introduced to The Wicked Trinity!"

THE WICKED TRINITY releases June 12, 2024 in comic shops nationwide, with colors by Ellie Wright, lettering by Jack Morelli, and an open-to-order variant cover by Soo Lee.
