Press release:
MONTREAL COMICCON INVADES PLACE BONAVENTURE!
Montreal (Quebec) August 16th, 2010 – On September 11 and 12, 2010, the Montreal Comiccon, Quebec’s largest comic book, bande dessinée, sci-fi, horror, toy and manga convention, will invade the halls of Place Bonaventure with a wild menagerie of international and local artists, entertainment celebrities, passionate exhibitors and colorful activities. Thousands of fans of all ages are expected to join this two-day celebration of the world of fantasy fiction.
This year’s guest artists will include Tim Sale, the comic book master who crafted the famous paintings featured in the TV show Heroes and numerous landmark comic books starring the most iconic figures of the Marvel and DC universes. Barbara Canepa, the Italian writer and illustrator of the hit French bande dessinée series Sky-Doll and founder of W.I.T.C.H. Magazine, with over 40 million copies sold in 83 countries, will make her first public appearance in Quebec. Two real fantasy American heroes will reunite for the first time in 15 years: Larry Hama, the man whose creative force turned the G.I. Joe toy line into a multimedia juggernaut in the 1980's, and Herb Trimpe, creator of the original Wolverine. Other visiting stars will include Ethan Van Sciver, the fan-favorite artist behind one of the most successful Green Lantern series in recent memory, Captain America and Fantastic Four artist Dale Eaglesham and many, many more.
The biggest franchises in the sci-fi universe will be properly represented at the Comiccon: Star Wars fans will be thrilled to meet Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Maria de Aragon (the original Greedo), all under the watchful eye of Darth Vader and his imperial troops, brought to life by the members of the Quebec Imperial Fortress in full costume. Trekkies will make a close encounter of the third kind with Brent Spiner, the popular Data on the hit TV show Star Trek: Next Generation. As for horror fans, they will have an opportunity to exchange a few spooky words and secrets with the legendary Elvira, “Mistress of the Dark”.
Activities will include question and answer sessions, autograph signings and photo opportunities with stars, free nCw live superhero wrestling matches, an extravagant costume contest, intense Magic and Yu-GI-Oh! tournaments, cosplay performances, movie previews by Seville Pictures and a chance to have pictures taken inside the original DeLorean automobile from Back to the Future to raise funds for the fight against Parkinson’s disease.
The local scene will be duly represented by the rising stars of the Quebec comic book world, including the authors of the popular series Académie des chasseurs de primes, independent film producers of fantasy web shows and the hilarious actors behind the Quebecois voices of The Simpsons. Naturally, comic book, card, toy and movie collectors will find rare items and acquire original art from the most dedicated retailers in Canada. And passionate fans, as always, will be expected to show up in their finest costumes. The Montreal Comiccon is a not-to-be-missed date for families and friends.
